Low-Tox Kitchen Swaps Under $50 (2026)

Glass jar, beeswax wraps, wooden spoons, steel straws and parchment on a wood counter

You don't need a $700 cookware set to make your kitchen lower-tox. These are the small, budget-friendly swaps we made first, in roughly the order we'd do them again.

Our rule of thumb for prioritizing: start where heat, fat or acid meets plastic, and with the things your family uses every single day. Room-temperature plastic storing dry crackers is low on our list. A plastic spatula in a hot pan, or plastic in the microwave, is high on it.

Each of these is typically under $50 at the time of writing, but prices change constantly, so check the current price on Amazon.

What we didn't bother replacing

Plastic storage bins for dry pantry goods, the kids' plastic toy kitchen, and the salad spinner are all still here. Low-tox is about reducing the biggest exposures you can easily control, not chasing perfection. Swap things as they wear out, and don't throw out perfectly good items in a panic.
