About Us
Hi! We're parents, not doctors or scientists, and somewhere between washing bottles and packing snack cups we started paying more attention to what our kitchen was made of.
It started small. Our nonstick pan was scratched, so we read about what to replace it with. Then we noticed our plastic containers had gone cloudy from the microwave. Then we wondered about our tap water. Each question led to another, and a lot of what we found online was either a sales pitch or a scare story.
This site is our attempt at the middle ground. We write up what we learned while making swaps in our own home, we explain the trade-offs, and we say so when the research is unsettled. You don't need to throw out your kitchen. Most families do best by replacing things as they wear out, starting with the items that touch food and heat every day.
What you can expect here
- Materials first. We recommend products based on what they're made of, published research and guidance, and patterns across lots of buyer reviews.
- No made-up testing. We don't run a lab. When we mention a certification (like NSF/ANSI for water filters), we tell you to check it on the certifier's own site.
- No medical advice. We're parents, not doctors or toxicologists. If you have a health concern, please talk to your pediatrician or doctor.
- Honest affiliate links. Some links earn us a small commission. It never changes your price, and it doesn't decide what we recommend. See the disclosure.
We also run Non-Toxic Baby & Screen-Free Play Directory, a sister site about non-toxic baby and toddler gear and screen-free play. If you want to say hi or suggest a guide, the contact page has our email.
